After you lose a tooth, there is simply no better replacement than a dental implant. They are the best investment in dental health that you can make!

Teeth can be lost for many reasons including tooth decay, gum disease, bone loss, or accidents. The Tahquitz Dental Group specializes in this essential form of reconstructive dentistry replacing one tooth, multiple teeth or entire arches using dental implant treatments.

How Implants Work

Dental ImplantDental implants are composed of two parts – a titanium screw and a restoration tooth. The titanium screw is created for attaching to jawbone. Bone responds incredibly well to titanium, treating the metal as if it was a part of the natural bone matrix. The result is an exceptionally strong base for the restoration tooth. The replacement tooth is much like a crown, but it attaches to an implant instead of covering a restored tooth. Because of their strength, two dental implants can support multiple artificial teeth. Therefore, you don’t need an implant to replace every single lost tooth.

Types of Implant Treatments

A single dental implant restores one tooth or many, depending on your budget, goals and available jawbone. The following implant treatments are available at the Tahquitz Dental Group:

Single Tooth Replacement

A standard method of implant dentistry and the best technique for replacing a lost tooth, during this procedure a single implant screw supports a single crown. Many teeth can be repaired using this method.  This treatment does the best job of replicating the roots that offer ongoing stimulation to the jawbone.

Dental Implant Bridges

If multiple teeth are missing right next to each other, and cost or bone availability is a consideration, only two implants are needed to support a dental bridge. A dental bridge makes it possible to replace numerous teeth simultaneously. Bridges normally require the adaptation of two existing teeth, which become the support of the bridge. With implants as a foundation, your remaining teeth and your jawbone are preserved.

Implant Arch Replacement

For full-mouth reconstruction, implant arch restoration replaces all of the teeth in the upper and lower arch. For the lower jaw, as few as two implants are needed to substitute for the entire arch. Certainly, if more dental implants are installed, the denture is more secure. For the upper jaw, four implants are strategically installed to support a denture that is either permanently fixed or removable (a “snap-in” or “snap-on” denture). Our Palm Springs dentists explain all of the options for each patient, in accord with your specific circumstances.
